Meeting with Dutch Consulate

April 3rd, 2005

Wednesday March 30th.
My family and I met with Mr. van der Zee of the Consulate of the Netherlands to regain our Dutch Nationality. His office is here in Scottsdale, AZ. Through him we were able to file documents and sign some forms which will enable us to have our Dutch Citizenship as well as obtain a Dutch passport.

My father is Dutch and came to the United States when he was 20. His parents, my grandparents, brought their 7 children over to the U.S. by ship through New York Harbor back in 1965. My father never became a U.S. citizen. When he passed away in 1994 he still held his Dutch passport and his “green card.” My husband wrote a little more about his backround in his blog:

Anyway, I wanted to continue my Dutch heritage and now I am able to pass it along to my daughter and the new baby when he/she arrives in October. I still have to get some documents like my birth certificate authenticated with the state department of California where I was born and raised. My daughter was born here in Arizona so I have to get her birth record authenticated through the state here. Once the certificates have been authenticated with the apostile from the California Secratary of State then I must send them into the Consulate General of the Netherlands for final approval.
